Have fun and join our cookery and wine tasting holiday in this beautiful part of Northern Tuscany. Combine cooking and wine tasting and learn all the basic Italian cooking techniques and traditions la bella "Garfagnana and Serchio Valley has to offer. We will visit our local market, wander the streets of Barga, known as one of the prettiest villages in Italy and we shall visit Lucca. The most part of the time there are concerts, folk festivals, outdoor food festivals (where you can savour typical products), theatre, Barga Jazz and the Opera Barga

My background is indeed a typical one. My parents and grandparents, originally from the Barga area emigrated to Scotland where like many other italian emigrants opened their own catering business.

During my informative years I gradually immersed myself in the culture, customs and traditions of my parents and grandparents and in particular their culinary cultures. I studied the ancient secrets and techniques of the traditional Tuscan cooking and kept alive certain recipes that lost popularity in the fast food era. A vegatable sformato, castagnaccio and necci are just some of the local delicacies of which later generations have little perception, even those born in Italy.

I have now been in Barga for almost 30 years running my Bed and Breakfast and apartments together with my children and have now opened my cooking school.

My partner Alex, who is also a professional singer, has a winery very close to La Mezzaluna, so I thought "Lets work together and combine my cooking lessons with wine tasting and live entertainment.

We work well together and hope you will give us the opportunity to let you experience the cooking, the wine, the music.




Transfer to residence La Mezzaluna 1hour and 15min where you will be given a welcoming drink and we can talk about the weeks activities. We shall then visit Alex's local wine cellar for some wine tasting and dine on local products


After breakfast, a morning visit to the medieval village of Barga, where you can admire it’s ancient streets and xl centuary Cathedral. Barga offers picturesque views of the serchio valley.

A light lunch will be served at La Mezzaluna followed by our first cookery lesson. Which lasts about 3/4 hours. Time to relax and then we will  dine on our  prepared foods.


Let's spend the day in Lucca. Just wandering round the shops, admiring the various cathedrals and squares we will leave after breakfast, have lunch in lucca then return to La Mezzaluna mid afternoon.

We will then dine at La Mezzaluna.


After breakfast we will go to Castelnuovo  market and wander round this ancient town.. We'll have a light lunch in one of the local stores. We will then return to La Mezzaluna for our second lesso. Today is Pizza and Focaccia cooked in a log oven and a traditional oven.

Again 3/4 hours and time to relax on the veranda then we will dine on our prepared foods and Alex will entertain us with live music.

5TH DAY   

After breakfast transfer to Pisa

The course is for beginners and we will learn the basics sauces such as ragu, salsa di pomodoro, zuppa di farro (farro soup, a grain similar to spelt typical of the garfagnana area ), home made pasta, cheese and spinach filled ravioli, gnocchi, antipasti made with farro, bruschetta, scaloppina, sformati (vegetable or potato pie) and cakes, tiramisù torta di ricotta.

2 x 4 hour cookery sessions including wine

Trip to barga, Lucca, Pisa, local market, live entertainment with Alex. Wine tasting at Alex's winery "Per...Bacco! "

Transfers to and from airport, and local transfers

Daily Lessons are available.  Cost of a 4 Hour Cookery lesson with Meal Wine is €100 per person.   You will be given the recipes and a Mezzaluna Apron .

Cost of lesson plus a wine tasting session at La Vineria Per.....Bacco ! (5 hours)  €115 per person.

Classes are hands on and are 2 to 6 people
